First time. Amazing!!!! The food is incredible. The restaurant is cozy. It has flat screen tv's. Great desserts. Mofongo with shrimp in red sauce was delish. Goat meat with white rice and beans was also great. I recommend. A place to go when I don't want to cook.

Meh. That's all I can say about this place. The taste and seasoning are all middling. The chicharrones, masitas de cerdo and mofongo were all unbearably dry and bland. If I never came here again, I wouldn't miss it. You're better served buying a few platanos yourself and making this at home.

Awesome food, Don't cook just order from here. All food is fresh, taste like moms and the desserts; AMAZING. Fresh dominican cake, Arroz con leche, flan. I'm a huge fan! Come in or eat out, you will be treated like family.

Punta Cana. Hmm. Pretty cliche but being that it is the only Dominican Restaurant close to home and the fact that it is right next door to the gym (don't judge me), I decided to give this spot a try. I have only tried the "Tres Golpes" (You can't eff this up unless you suck as a Dominican) and the $4.99 Chimi (Which I didn't have to drive to Los Primos in Allapatta to enjoy) add Tamarindo juice to that Chimi and the total cost is $8.47. Ladies and gentlemen, you just saved yourself a mugging and a whole lot of gas!

Great small place to go after partying all night. The mofongo with pork was great. Also try the deserts.

I have been coming to this restaurant on and off for the last few years. Most recently I came with my family on a Sunday morning for breakfast. It's a small quiet restaurant but the food is delicious and they serve great portions. I always order the Dominicano #1. It's a platter with a little bit of everything. A huge serving of mashed plantains with 2 eggs cooked however you want, I go with over easy. Next you get extra thick slices of salami and wedges of cheese that has been lightly fried. To finish the dish they add sautéed red onions on top. All the flavors together are rich and savory! I don't love in the area but when the craving hits it's worth the drive. All the employees are friendly and want you to enjoy your time there! Just writing this review has triggered another craving and I will have to go back next weekend!

Not to happy with service and business location. First of all the waiter that took care of us is way to slow and I think for her age she should be behind the register not serving clients. ( no disrespect, but she's old , I felt bad to even ask her for something else since by looking at her you can tell she's overwhelmed ). We went for Father's day at about 2:30 and oh boy what a mistake, seems to me the ac doesn't work or they had it at 82 degrees inside.i asked the person working there if a is broken and they said no. We where sweating are butts in there. I am impressed that a business like this open for so many years has not change their location to a bigger place. My table almost touches the other table sitting next to us. No privacy , this is like a diner instead of a restaurant. The funny part is on my $200.00 bill they include the tip already for our lousy waiter. Lmao they ain't stupid. I just think they should really consider moving and changing the owners mom not to be a waiter and to have more qualified people to serve the client. Personally I will not recommended this Dominican place.

My boyfriend and I saw this restaurant on Yelp and decided to order take out. It was about 9:30pm on Saturday. When I arrive, they greeted me by name and started to process my payment. The restaurant was empty and it just looked like a typical plain local restaurant. As I waited, they admitted they messed up the order and were fixing the meat. I ordered pollo a la plancha con mofongo and chicharron con mofongo. My plate was the chicken and it tasted better than the chicharron. My boyfriend was a bit jealous. At first, I was surprised the cost of the food was kind of high I mean the restaurant is pretty basic but they did serve a large quantity and I had left overs for the next day so it was worth it. The meals came with a side soup and I ordered a side of plantains. The plantains were greasy. The mofongo was on point and tasted good! The chicken was a tad bit salty though. It's not my favorite restaurant but it's a good local spot for Dominican Food.

The few times I've been there THE ONLY problem has been the speed of the food coming out, service and food have been GREAT!!

If we are going to be honest, the restaurant's atmosphere and decor is not its selling point. However, the food sells it. I went all the way Dominican with Mofongo and Chicharon and while my arteries may not agree, it was hella good. My "novio" keep it in the family and went ham on the Steak. If you were going to rate this restaurant just on looks, expectations shouldn't be very high, but once the plates hit that table, there was no turning back.

I had a craving of Monfongo on a late sunday night, this was the only place nearby that i could order to pick up. I read good recomentations of this place so i my expectations were high. I ordered a mofongo with carnita frita.... The plantains used for do the mofongo were almos sweet plantains, matures! :'( i almost cried when i tried. I was at home already and i wont go there to have a exchange. The carnita frita were pretty good, seazoned and most of them are dry. This was not at least.

We went to Casa Borinquen but they weren't open for business and Yelp listed Punta Cana restaurant as a nearby place for similar food so we went with it. Bottom line: this was no substitute. We both regret eating here. "AMBIANCE": This is a small, divey restaurant. It's not cozy - it is a bit old and broken down. The paper placemats fit the decor. My intuition said "run" but my optimism said "it may be very authentic and worth checking out". My lesson? Listen to my intuition. SLOW SERVICE: There was 1 server but there was just us and another couple in the restaurant. Still, we waited a while for our food. Someone picked up an order of 4 containers of food to go; I wonder if they have only 1 person cooking. FOOD: The coffee was good because it was not acidic and the milk was heated. I wish I could say the same for my food. After waiting about 15 minutes, the server brought a plate of food to me and asked me if it was mine. It had been so long since she took the order she couldn't remember what I requested! The dish was for the couple who came in after us. Soon after I got my plate of mofongo stuffed with shrimp in garlic sauce. Five minutes later hubby got his Cuban sandwich. The mofongo had not been heated - it was room temp with warm thin yellow sauce on it (no garlic flavor) and five heated shrimp in the center. Room temp mofongo is a thick, unappetizing paste. The shrimp were ok but I only ate one because it was barely hot and sitting on the mound of thick, unheated food. Hubby gave me a piece of his Cuban sandwich. It was pressed so it was hot and crispy. While not stuffed with lots of meat, it had cheese and pickles sticking out of the side. The food tasted ok but not worth raving about; hubby was hungry and eating it so I said nothing. REGRET: On the way home hubby said the pork was dry and that he saw brown grease on the plate. He started to feel 'grossed' and admitted that he thinks he just ate old food. Judging from the lack of customers and the way the food tasted, I think he may be onto something. They say a picture is worth a thousand words - in this case I'd say my pics say the Galaxy Note camera makes anything look good.

The Dominican breakfast here is huge. Hands down one of the best tasting mangu's I've ever had. I had it with scrambled eggs, cheese and salami of course. Had the majarete for dessert and I'm addicted. Bought 2 more to go since my be and I did not want to share! Will be back!

I have been here so many times and it's sad to say after many years I will never go back, not even for a glass of water. I called in a to go order. Fried fish with rice and beans. When I got to work they had fried the fish with the scales still on it. I freaked out and threw it in the trash. I took it out just to get a picture of the head because I couldn't believe how a restaurant can be this unsanitary. Then I called back and the lady told me she will tell the kitchen didn't even offer me a new one. (Not like I wanted it) She said they were closing. The next day I asked for the owner and no one spoke English, needless to say the quality has dropped and they shouldn't be serving food which could get anyone sick.

Dominican cuisine is pretty far and few in between in the South FL area. But Punta Cana offers its best homemade dishes in the Pembroke Pines area. I've been eyeing this place for a while and it's been bookmarked and awaited my visit for quite some time now. As you walk in, the place is small and cozy, with a very home-y feeling to it... Restaurant, but still feels like a place that does home cooking at a corner unit in a small shopping plaza. Now to the food... Croquetas - Dominican style, with a little bit of a mayo/ketchup dipping sauce, the croquettes had little chunks of protein in between all those bread crumbs. Good flavor and didn't lack taste whatsoever. Chicharron de Pollo - fried chicken chunks, nice and crisp - the skin just like a cracklin' as the name implies in Spanish, with a squeeze of lime juice over it, they seem to brighten up the taste much more. Comes with your choice of side dishes. Pollo a la plancha - chicken breast on a flattop grill, nice succulent juicy chicken breast, grilled and topped with onions. This one we had to order it with Mofongo (smashed green plantains) - garlicky, well balanced/seasoned, and with a side of dipping broth - YUM-O! Mofongo relleno com pollo - stuffed with chicken. Excellent!!! It is covered with a tomato sauce, really tasty and mouth watering. It is not overly drenched, just enough to have for every bite of your meal. Chicken breast chunks and sauce was seasoned to perfection, resembles like a fricase sauce but maybe even better... Hmmm. Longaniza - sausage, this item was just ok. It was tasty but more on the dry side than anything else. This is probably why it really didn't stand out to us so much. Can't wait 'till my next venture out here, because I really enjoyed the first venture. Boy, I'm glad I did!

We are great. The whole fish was amazing and the salcocho tasted just like from Dominican Republic. Really authentic food. You feel as if you are eating at someone's home in DR.

Great Place! The food is really good. I went all out and ordered as many things as I could since I hadn't had a dominican cooked meal I a while. Prices are responsible, food was delicious, atmosphere was comforting. I had to leave with two slices of dominican cake for later.

Been here waiting for 50 minutes and not even water. They took my order about 45 minutes ago and they served two tables that arrived here later than us. I don't think I will be coming back. Food finally arrived. It was very good.

Came here yesterday with my mom and stepdad, as they were in town for the long weekend. Well it rained the entire time they were here so we took it easy. My mom used to live in DR, and she was really craving mangu. My girlfriend found this place, so we decided why not? Well this place is situated in what looks like murderville, so I knew it was gonna be delish. The service was excellent, considering our server was a one-woman show and 6 other tables arrived five minutes after we did. I ordered the chimichurri burger and stuffed tostones. Both were amazing. The girl ordered bistec empanizado, and that rice on the side was to die for!!! My mom ordered the mangu, made mofongo style, with chicharones de pollo (fried chicken). Hers was absolutely amazing and HUGE. She has enough for lunch the whole week. The only thing we didn't care for was the guava cake for dessert. The cake itself was dry, but the icing was good. I don't recommend getting cake on a Sunday because I don't think it was fresh. Another table ordered the flan, so that might be the way to go, theirs looked really yummy! I'd recommend hiring more servers, but this girl killed it. Take all my money!!

Mofongo is the reason to go here. It is the best I've had outside of the Dominican Republic. Their empanadas are really good too. I've ordered food to go several times. I definitely agree with others about the location and the décor. The best was the plain Mofongo with the garlic sauce on the side for 6.95. Once home I use my own wild caught steamed shrimp and enjoyed it the best. I've tried their shrimp and I don't think the quality nor the flavor are that great. I did get my eyes locked on the cakes a few times while waiting for my order. They are all delicious.

One word: Disappointed I am a fan of mofongo and was looking forward to coming here because my family that we are visiting raved about this place. Let's begin with the empanadas. We ordered both the chicken and the beef, both were dry and not chewable. The crust was over cooked and added to the dryness. The kicker was both chicken empanadas had shards of bone in them. I had the lobster and shrimp mofongo for my main meal. The mofongo was terribly dry and the pieces of pork rind inside were not chewable. The shrimp and lobster were just ok. I have to say the garlic sauce actually tasted good. My wife had the bistec empanizado. The steak tasted great but the beans and rice had no beans. There were 3 beans in the cup with the rest all sauce. The only thing redeeming was the flan for dessert. I enjoyed it but it did not make up for the rest of dinner. My family that brought me here claims they've eaten here before and that this experience was not typical. Maybe the normal chef was sick, but the owner was there and should have exerted some quality control.

Great food and great service. I went for lunch and for $7, its one of the best deals in the area. The server was friendly and attentive and the food was a good portion size. I will give them my business in the future.

Excellent fry fish with a side of mofongo. The mofongo was also excellent. One of the best hot sauces ever. Small family place in a plaza. Will come again.

This place is too over priced for what they give you.. I ordered a kids palomilla and they gave me piece that a 2 year old would eat. Which means it sure did not satisfy my 10 year old..... Needless to say the piece of steak was tiny.... And For $6?!! That's ridiculous! Also ordered mofongo which is flavorless and for $14 also not worth it...

  • Chefchino L.

Disgusting! Ordered take out and bought a cake. The carne frita with tostones i ordered was basically less than 2 oz worth of fatty chewy garbage. It came with literally a pound of rice. The beans had huge chunks of green pepper and onion and salty. Tostones? 2 tiny peices of soggy hacked up plantain! Lmao is this a dominican resturaunt that cant cook platano? Uh oh. Enough said!!! When i called i was put on hold and told that it was there normal portion and asked what the problem was. I just spent 4o dollars on basura basically. Btw i am an executive chef at a 5 star resturaunt on the beach and i never write reviews good or bad. But this places attitude and customer service is what above all makes this place horrible. Stay away. Youve been warned!!

This restaurant used to be one of my favorites. Yesterday i was going to FLL airport and stopped there after a long time that i had not visited. I am Dominican and love cooking my authentic food, sooo i know exactly what tastes good and what doesn't. When arrived with my husband we both felt like not excited at all - place was empty and nobody greeted us either. We sat in a table and waited and waited for about 10 mins for someone to approach. A lady came just to ask if our drinks order was taken. We said no and she proceeded to call someone. We order a Presidente and a coke. Presidente was like a tea. For those who know that is a disrespect in DR to serve a warm beer, well that's what im talking about. My hubby asked to please change it and she said they were all like that, as a "courtesy" she would put it in the freezer for a while (omg really?). Anyways, we said "ok" and ordered meat empanada and a quippe for appetizer plus mofongo and shrimps and mofongo and carnita for entree. Quippe was raw in the center and burned outside. Did not complain because we are both shy when it comes to be returning food etc. - our entree order had been placed with the lady at 2:55 pm. It was 3:35 and food still not come to the table. People that arrived after us were already finishing their meals so a lady comes to the table and starts picking up the empty plates for the appetizer and says "oh. Food is coming, they made a mistake and forgot to put your ticket in". That's when my husband tells me: we should've had listened to our intuition since we got ti this place LOL let's go. I standed up, paid for the burned kippe, the tea presidente, the coke and the empanada and left. We ended up at Pollo Tipico which to me is one of the best dominican restaurants in SF.

I always get the Oxtail with rice and beans & sweet plantains. I didn't like the mofongo the last time ( too hard...lacked flavor). My boyfriend got the leg of lamb and gave them a thumbs up.

This hole in the wall, no frills spot is in the corner of a small strip mall next to a bar. Did that deter us from making the 30 min trip? Heck no. My Dominican husband and Puerto Rican self had been craving mofongo and didn't want to return to Benny's or Jimmy'z. The mofongo here is more along the lines of what we're used to in NYC. The plantains were crispy, yet moist and the pork chops were seasoned perfectly. The sauce was right on point...not too sweet (Jimmy'z) and not that soupy caldo we don't like (Benny's). We each ordered one. They are a pretty decent size and we shared an avocado salad (recommended). We stuffed our faces, but one can easily be enjoyed by two people with an appetizer. The prices average for the South Florida area (would be overpriced for NYC). We will definitely be back!
